Go on and commence with the pointing and laughing, i don't mind. I can't believe i'm admitting this, but my favorite (japanese) movie of all time is koizora.

If you like gake no ue no ponyo you might like similar movies kiki's delivery service, whisper of the heart, the cat returns, porco rosso, the truth below. I just really thought the story was sweet, but so sad.
What are other japanese animation movies like ponyo? I don't think i'm interested in anime, per say, but if i really liked this movie and wanted to find others that was less of a kid's movie, what would you recommend?. With cate blanchett, matt damon, liam neeson, tomoko yamaguchi. So really, it’s the little mermaid , but much, much weirder. Both are incredibly charming stories with adorable lead characters and a nice sense of escapism in the real world.
Both are well worth a look, particularly if you like the studio ghibli works. However, ponyo is actually the daughter of a powerful sea wizard and an enchanting sea goddess. 86.7% of the films in the top 30 were released after 2000.
